Hartford Golden Automobile Jubilee Plate

During the commemoration of Hartford's Golden Automobile Jubilee, the predecessor of the Early American plate was made in September of 1947. Also, at that time, the second Glidden Tour for antique automobiles route was in New England and primarily on Connecticut roads. With the Glidden Tour in Connecticut, the Hartford State Armory held an exhibition of antique automobiles.
The Exhibition was organized and a special commemorative marker plate for all the Tour cars was designed by Henry Cave, a former engineer with the Pope Manufacturing Company in Hartford. These plates were made by Scovill Manufacturing Company of Waterbury. The plates used a gold anodized flat aluminum base and had blue painted lettering and decorative devices with black letters. A temporary registration was issued by by the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and was only valid for the month of September 1947. This is the only type of special issue ever made by Connecticut DMV. Only 144 pairs were made and only 123 were issued. The first 23 plates were given to dignitaries.
The Hartford Golden Automobile Jubilee License Plate was the lowest and rarest Connecticut License Plate ever issued. The Hartford Golden Automobile Jubilee Plate has been reproduced. The plate was reproduced as the original plate on the same gold anodized flat aluminum base with blue lettering and decorative devices and black letters. The reproduction was limited to the original production 144 plates in numeric sequence. The plate is mounted by brass plated screws with matching cup washers on a walnut plague in the shape of the State of Connecticut with a golden disk identifying the exact number of the 144 produced. A notarized Certificate of Authenticity will be isued with each plate.
